Tutoring Program
Students that experience difficulty in one or more academic subjects are given
one-on-one instruction for two hour sessions that occur two days a week Monday
- Thursday, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Each session will consists of an extensive
breakdown of the topic(s) at hand through the use of homework assignments,
textbooks and other resources related to the subject matter. During
the last session of each week, time will be allotted for a quiz to determine
the comprehension level of the materials introduced during the previous session.
A diagnostic test will be administered once a month to determine the effectiveness
of the sessions as well as the overall comprehension of the subject matter.
Assessment
An assessment is an abbreviated test that measures the academic grade level
the student is performing on. The grade level expectations is specified
by the Louisiana Department of Education, and is given in the form of multiple
choice and fill in the blank questions on the subjects of Math, English, Reading
and Language Arts. The assessment evaluates the strengths and weaknesses
of the student and gives the educator a starting point to correct or improve
learning strategies.
If the student enters the tutoring program upon completion of the assessment,
a post assessment will be administered to determine whether or not the student’s
grade level expectation has risen.
Classroom Observation
Parents often request classroom observations to further explain the results
of the assessment and or academic and behavioral issues exhibited by the student.
Classroom observations include one full academic day of monitoring done at the student's school in all academic classes. The observation is contingent upon approval of the principal of the school and seeks to observe and examine the relationships the students have with their teacher(s) and peers and how those relationships play a role in the progression or breakdown of the learning process.
Upon completion of the classroom observation, a recommendation will be made to the parent regarding ways learning can be improved in the classroom as it relates to the student.
ACT Prep
This program is offered to students 10th Grade - 12th Grade and provides strategies
to successfully obtain or increase the overall score on the ACT. Sessions
are offered for six consecutive Saturdays from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and will
include the ACT Study Guide book as well as other textbooks to use in preparation
for the exam. The program will also include workshops that educate students
and parents on choosing the best college, scholarships, and steps to applying
for financial aid. The ACT test will be administered at the first and
last session of the program, which will give first time test takers a first
hand look at the actual exam. It will also enable any positive scores
to be recorded by the ACT association and sent directly to any college.
IOWA/LEAP Remediation
This program is offered to students in 4th grade and 8th grade and provides
strategies for successfully passing the IOWA and LEAP tests.
Sessions are offered for six consecutive Saturdays from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and will include previous IOWA/LEAP exams to use as well as textbooks as resources to use in preparation for the exams.
